Many people suffer with ‘feeling low’, that can lead to depression and they can go through life without seeking help at all, believing that depression is just 'part of them'. People with depression often feel that they are alone, and can’t be helped. However, depression is now recognised as one of the most common and devastating disorders in the UK, it affects our relationships, our sleep, our physical health, our ability to experience pleasure and our capacity to get things done.

In truth, depression is not who you are, depression is an illness and it is very treatable.

How to recognise Depression:

You may be suffering from depression if five or more of the following symptoms are present during the same two weeks period and represent a change from previous function and at least one of the symptoms is either the first of second of the list:

  • Depressed mood most of the day, feeling empty, sad, or tearful.

  • Loss of interest in daily activities.

  • Significant weight loss or weight gain.

  • Feeling nervous, restless, irritable, angry or grouchy on a daily basis

  • Sleep disturbance, either insomnia or sleeping all day.

  • Fatigue , loss of energy.

  • Lack of concentration, indecisiveness.

  • Feelings of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt

  • Recurring thoughts of death

The treatment with Hypnotherapy:

Hypnotherapy, combining hypnosis with a Solution Focused approach, is particularly effective against depression because it goes right to the heart of the issue.

The treatment begins with hypnosis to reduce anxiety levels often associated with depression (and which often cause insomnia in the depressed person). Once anxiety is reduced the focus moves to establishing areas of activity which will enable you to look to the future - making choices on how you want life to be. Eventually reframing techniques are used to allow you to look to the future with renewed focus and optimism.

The actual nature and length of treatment will of course depend on you and your circumstances, but the majority of clients experience a significant improvement and are ready to cease therapy after three months.
